Introduction to Daniel

The book of Daniel was written by the prophet Daniel in the 6th century BC. He was a young man at the tender age of eighteen when he was taken captive by the Babylonians. The prophet wrote this book while he lived in Babylon under both Babylonian and Persian rule. Eight chapters were penned while Daniel was under Babylonian rule (chapters 1-5, 7-9), and four chapters while he was under Persian rule (chapters 6, 10-12).

This great prophetic book has two very important distinguishing parts. The first six chapters are predominantly historical in nature, while chapters seven through twelve are principally prophetic in nature. But there is a very distinct structure to the book of Daniel, which I call The Prophet’s Code.
